Two friends were traveling together through a forest when they suddenly encountered a large Bear.
The Bear emerged from the trees and headed straight toward them.
One of the travelers panicked. Without a word, he scrambled up the nearest tree and climbed to safety.
The other man was left alone.

He knew he could not outrun the Bear or fight it by himself. Then he remembered something he had once heard—that Bears often leave dead animals alone.
Thinking quickly, he dropped to the ground, held his breath, and lay perfectly still.
The Bear approached and sniffed him carefully. It nudged him with its nose and examined him from head to toe.
At last, believing the man was dead, the Bear lost interest and wandered away into the forest.
When the danger had passed, the traveler in the tree climbed down.
Trying to laugh off what had happened, he asked, “The Bear seemed to whisper something in your ear. What did it say?”
The other traveler stood up and brushed the dirt from his clothes.
“It gave me some very good advice,” he replied.
“Oh?” said the first man. “What was it?”
“It told me never to trust a friend who abandons you when trouble appears.”
The man in the tree had no answer.
Moral: True friends stand by each other in difficult times. Challenges reveal who your real friends are.
