The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse

Once upon a time, a Town Mouse went to visit his cousin, the Country Mouse.
The Country Mouse lived in a quiet field far away from the busy city.
He was happy to see his cousin and prepared the best meal he could.

For lunch, he served grains, nuts, roots, and cool fresh water.
The Town Mouse tasted the food but did not seem very impressed.
He took tiny bites and said politely, “Thank you.”
As they ate, the Town Mouse talked about his life in the city.
“Oh, the city is wonderful!” he said.
“There are grand houses, delicious foods, and exciting things to see every day.”
The Country Mouse listened carefully.
The city sounded exciting.
That night, the two mice slept peacefully in a cozy nest.
As he slept, the Country Mouse dreamed about all the wonderful things his cousin had described.
The next morning, the Town Mouse said, “Why don’t you come back to the city with me?”
The Country Mouse smiled.
“I’d love to!”
So off they went.
Soon they arrived at a large mansion where the Town Mouse lived.
Inside the dining room was a table covered with leftovers from a great feast.
There were cakes, pastries, cheeses, and many delicious treats.
The Country Mouse could hardly believe his eyes.
“This is amazing!” he said.
Just as he was about to take a bite of a sweet pastry, he heard a loud sound.
“Meeeow!”
A cat was scratching at the door.
The two mice squeaked with fear and ran to a hiding place.
They stayed very still and waited.
After a while, everything became quiet.
The mice carefully returned to the table.
But suddenly the door flew open!
In came the servants.
And right behind them came a big dog.
“Woof! Woof!”
The frightened mice ran away once again.
The Country Mouse was shaking.
He quickly picked up his little bag.
“Are you leaving already?” asked the Town Mouse.
“Yes,” said the Country Mouse.
“The food here is wonderful, but I do not like being scared all the time.”
“I would rather eat simple food in the countryside and live in peace.”
Then he returned home, where he felt safe and happy.

The Lesson: A simple life with peace and safety is often better than a life full of luxury and worry.
