The Miller, His Son, and the Donkey πŸ«πŸ‘¨πŸ‘¦ | A Simple Audiobook Story for Kids | Aesop’s Fables

Once upon a time, an old Miller and his Son were taking their Donkey to the market.
They hoped to sell the Donkey for a good price.
As they walked along the road, they let the Donkey walk beside them.
“We should keep him healthy and rested,” said the Miller.
Soon, some travelers passed by.
They laughed and said,
“Look at those two! Why are they walking when they have a Donkey to ride?”
The Miller did not like being laughed at.
“Perhaps they are right,” he said.
So he told his Son to climb onto the Donkey’s back.
The Boy happily rode while the Miller walked.
A little farther down the road, they met some merchants.
The merchants frowned.
“How disrespectful!” one of them said.
“That young boy rides while his old father walks!”
The Miller sighed.
“Perhaps they are right too.”
So the Boy climbed down, and the Miller got on the Donkey.
They continued on their way.
Soon they met a group of women carrying baskets.
The women shook their heads.
“Look at that!” one woman said.
“The poor child has to walk while his father rides comfortably.”
The Miller felt embarrassed.
“Maybe they’re right,” he said.
So he invited his Son to ride behind him.
Now both of them rode on the Donkey.
Before long, they met another group of people.
The people looked shocked.
“How terrible!” one cried.
“That poor Donkey has to carry both of them!”
“How cruel!” said another.
The Miller and his Son quickly climbed off.
They wanted to avoid more criticism.
Then the Miller had an unusual idea.
“Let’s carry the Donkey instead!”
he said.
They tied the Donkey’s legs to a pole and lifted him onto their shoulders.
The Donkey was not pleased.
As they walked into town, people stopped and stared.
Some laughed.
Some pointed.
Others couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
The Donkey became frightened by all the noise.
He kicked and brayed loudly.
When they reached a bridge, the Donkey struggled so much that the ropes slipped loose.
Splash!
The Donkey fell into the river below and was swept away.
The Miller and his Son stood sadly on the bridge.
By trying to make everyone happy, they had lost their Donkey and solved nothing at all.
As they walked home, they finally understood an important lesson.
If you try to please everyone, you may end up pleasing no oneβ€”including yourself. It is important to think for yourself and make wise decisions.
