The Donkey and Its Shadow πŸ«β˜€οΈ | A Simple Audiobook Story for Kids | Aesop’s Fables

Once upon a time, a Traveler needed to journey across a hot, open plain.
To help carry his belongings, he rented a Donkey from its owner.
The Donkey’s owner came along too, walking beside them to guide the way.
The sun shone brightly overhead.
As the day went on, it became hotter and hotter.
There were no trees.
There were no buildings.
There was no shade anywhere.
The Traveler wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“I’m exhausted,” he said.
At last, he decided to stop and rest.
The only shade nearby was the small shadow cast by the Donkey.
So the Traveler sat down beside the Donkey and rested in its shadow.
The Donkey’s owner was tired too.
After all, he had been walking the whole time.
When he saw the Traveler sitting comfortably in the shade, he became upset.
“Wait a minute!” he said.
“You rented my Donkey, but you did not rent its shadow!”
“The shade belongs to me!”
The Traveler disagreed.
“If I rented the Donkey,” he replied, “then I should be allowed to enjoy its shadow as well.”
Soon they began arguing.
Their voices grew louder.
The argument became more heated.
Before long, they were so busy quarreling that they stopped paying attention to the Donkey.
The Donkey looked around.
No one was watching.
So it quietly trotted away.
Step by step, it wandered farther and farther across the plain.
When the Traveler and the owner finally stopped arguing, they looked around.
The Donkey was gone!
Both men were shocked.
Because they had spent so much time fighting over something small, they had lost the very thing they were arguing about.

The Lesson: When people argue over small things, they may lose something much more important. Focus on what truly matters.
